Our Challenge -
In May, our team is taking on a challenging cycle climb from Thusis to the Splügenpass Summit in Switzerland to raise funds for TCCL (Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia).
This 35 km climb formed part of Stage 4 of the 2025 Tour de Suisse. The first 26 km rise steadily from the valley, starting with a short steep ramp before settling into gradually increasing gradients - with the final 3.5 km steepening to around 5.7%. The final 9 km is the real battle: a brutal Alpine wall averaging about 7.4%, climbing all the way to over 2,100 metres at the Splügenpass summit. It’s long, steep, and unrelenting — exactly the kind of challenge worth suffering for!
TCCL is a small, volunteer run charity that has supported local families for over 25 years, offering practical and emotional help to those facing the unimaginable: having a child diagnosed with cancer. The charity provides family breaks, financial support, and a vital sense of community at a time when families need it most. Every penny raised goes directly to children and families, thanks to the dedication of volunteers who give their time freely.
This challenge has a very personal meaning for us…
John’s Story -
In 2025, I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. Shortly after my diagnosis, I began to realise that, as challenging as the experience was, I felt grateful that it was me facing it, because I could see how heavily it weighed on those watching on, especially my family and friends. That perspective gave me only a glimpse into what parents must feel when it’s their child facing cancer. TCCL supports families through moments no one should ever have to endure, and that’s why we want to raise as much as possible for this incredible charity.
